Only a small percentage of lawyers receive the honor of Certified Specialist by the Bar. In California, there are over 120,000 licensed attorneys; less than 400 are designated as certified criminal law specialists – Robert is one. Strict requirements govern who may be named a certified specialist in criminal law: written exams, ongoing educational requirements, and the favorable evaluations of both attorneys and judges.

Robert mastered all of this and more, proving he’s the best of the best.

Upon graduating from Loyola Law School with a stint at Oxford University, Robert began practicing criminal law in 1987. Since then, he has specialized in defending complex white-collar cases throughout the United States featuring individual and corporate clients targeted by the:

  • United States Attorneys Office

  • Securities and Exchange Commission

  • Department of Justice

  • Internal Revenue Service

  • Commodity Futures Trading Commission

  • Other State and Federal Prosecuting Agencies

A former Superior Court Judge Pro Tem, adjunct law professor at Western States University School of Law, guest contributor for TV station KTLA, and editor of the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review, Robert is often recommended to clients by attorneys at large law firms where they do not practice criminal defense.

In 1991, Robert founded the Hartmann Law Firm, where he remains owner and principal. A former 14-year board member for Boys Town California, and now the co-founder of Uncork for Hope, nonprofits dedicated to serving at-risk youth, he works tirelessly to help those in need.

With Robert by your side, you are never alone. Not only does he specialize in making his clients sympathetic to judges and juries alike, but he is also accessible 24/7/365. Unlike other attorneys who tell their clients what they want to hear, he believes in advising his clients on what they need to hear.

Robert offers free consultations and is committed to obtaining the best possible outcome for you.
